I taught a Year 7 group last week, mainly boys. I was overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and commitment they all kept throughout the lesson. The lesson objective was to create a cat and mouse chase scene similar to Tom and Jerry where they had to make all their actions cartoon-like. They had to include a jump, turn, freeze, melt and travel.
I was left feeling so proud and with a sense of accomplishment the fact that not only had the boys joined in they had fully committed to the task and created some excellent work.
I wish the love for dance would be in as many boys as girls.
Do we need to change the way we teach dance to boys?
Do we need to change the way we introduce dance to boys?
Do boy and girls learn differently?
Are they uninterested because of lack of knowledge around dance?
I would like to research more into these questions as it is something I am interested in finding more about.
If anyone has any information or resources connected to this it would be great.
Sunday evening thoughts...
